The Slovenian Institute is an important papal institution where many theology students from Slovenia, who studied in Rome, resided.
The daily Eucharistic celebration was held before the image of Our Lady of Help.
From history, the following:
The image of Mary Help of Christians from Brezje, created by academic painter Leon Koporč, has accompanied the Slovenik Institute since its inception. It is placed at the heart of the institution, in the altar space of the chapel dedicated to Mary Help of Christians. The image was first crowned during the Slovenian Jubilee Pilgrimage on December 8, 1975. During the solemn liturgy, Maribor bishop Dr. Maksimilijan Držečnik and Dr. Janez Jenko, along with five other priests, concelebrated the Mass. After the sermon by Bishop Jenko, Bishop Držečnik crowned the image of the Child and Mary. He mentioned that the crown had been a gracious gift to the Slovenes, blessed by Pope Paul VI. He also expressed a prayer that we too, one day, might be crowned in heavenly glory, through Jesus and Mary. The first crowns were stolen in the following years. During the national pilgrimage to Rome, pilgrims, led by Slovenian bishops, met with the Holy Father on October 17, 1979. On this occasion, Pope John Paul II blessed the new crowns and crowned the image of Mary Help of Christians with them. Pope John Paul II visited the image at the Slovenik Institute on the 30th anniversary of the institution, on November 22, 1990, when he led a concelebrated Mass in the renovated chapel of the institute (cf.
