When purchasing the association’s land, we were advised to build a “shrine,” which was supposed to expedite the change in land use. This wish or need was mentioned by Mirko Cuderman to the late architect Cvetkot Meja\u010d, who immediately drew up the plan. Then, with the intervention of the Slovenian senator in Canberra, Mi\u0161o Lajovica, we quickly received approval from the municipality. However, due to other costs, we had to postpone Meja\u010d’s plan for the monument (intended for the victims of World War II). <\/p>\n

Marica Podobnik initiated the process of building the chapel in 1985. She started collecting funds and asked the builder Karel Knap to take on the construction. With the help of the late Jo\u017ee Majerle and Franc Polak, Karel also built the monument. Jo\u017ee Barbi\u0161 covered the steps around the monument. <\/p>\n

On November 5, 1985, it was blessed by the auxiliary bishop of Ljubljana, Jo\u017ee Kvas.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, Meja\u010d’s four images on the monument (The Flight into Egypt \u2013 symbolic for us refugees, The Suffering \u2013 victims of the war, St. Christopher \u2013 travelers, and Mary Help of Christians from Brezje) faded over time due to exposure to the sun, and we had to replace them with just the image of Mary Help of Christians. The current image will also need to be replaced soon, as it is constantly exposed to the harsh sun.
Before the visit of Bishop Uran and Father Provincial Stane Zore, Jaka Kapelj excellently restored the chapel, making it truly look as good as new. We are very grateful to him for that. <\/p>\n

The monument is covered with granite slabs on which the names of deceased fellow countrymen in our Queen’s Land are engraved. Currently, 112 names are carved on the monument. Many more names are still waiting. Engraving and granite slabs are not inexpensive. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
