The journey of Mary Help of Christians with the Ambrožič family
The image of Mary Help of Christians was given by Lojze Ambrožič to his wife Helena for her feast day in 1944. The family had to flee Slovenia to Austria, and Mary traveled with them. After a few years, the family moved to Canada, and in 1955, their son Lojze was ordained as a priest. At that time, his mother gave him the image of Mary Help of Christians. A few years later, the young priest was made a cardinal. In his apartment, he set up a chapel, and Mary had a place beside the cross above the altar. During daily Mass and prayers, he entrusted himself to Mary Help of Christians.
Illness arrived, and he became weaker, so he had to move to a nursing home called “Kardinal Ambrožič House of Providence.” Upon arriving at the home, he requested that the image of Mary Help of Christians be hung above his bed. After the cardinal’s death, Mary Help of Christians found a home with his brother Matija, thus continuing to reside within the Ambrožič family.
